A special show today as DMT reaches its 200th Episode, and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than spending an hour chatting with Olivier de Simone (Urturn), Brian Zisk (Sf Music Tech Summit) and Kevin Breuner (CD Baby). This week’s week show also contains appearances from Peter Tondstad, Chief Commercial Officer at WiMP, and Mike McCready, CEO at Musicxray.

We kick off by chatting about Apple distributing U2’s new album ‘Songs of Innocence’ for free to anyone with an iTunes account at the end of the company’s keynote announcing the new iPhones and the Apple Watch. Does this contribute to the perception of music being free? Was it “creepy” to see an album appear in your library without requesting it? We discuss this and much more, including whether the Apple Watch will end up on our wrists…

This show is not an Apple fest though as we had a tonne of news from other services including the announcement of a new high-quality audio service called TIDAL (developed by WiMP) debuting in the US and UK later this fall. Deezer also announced its own high-quality Deezer Elite service that will launch internationally on Sonos devices and will also be available in the US.

We cover Rdio’s redesign and its conversion to freemium, Spotify’s introduction of video adverts and ‘sponsored’ listening and finally Twitter testing a BUY button. A game changer or something people don’t really want?
