DMT 186: Apple buys Beats, WIN vs YouTube Pt.2, Amazon’s music, Megaupload’s cash, Consent Decree

This week on Digital Music Trends it was a real pleasure to welcome Ben Sisario (New York Times) and Eriq Gardner (The Hollywood Reporter) to the show as we discuss – at long last – Apple’s official announcement of the Beats Acquisition, WWDC, independent label associations coming down hard on YouTube and preparing to file a complaint with the European Union, Amazon’s possible entry in the on-demand streaming space, the Department of Justice reviewing ASCAP and BMI’s consent decree, MPAA and RIAA working to make sure Megaupload’s assets stay frozen, Ticketmaster’s tentative settlement and Stubhub launching a music app.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a great week and ’till next time.

This week on Digital Music Trends I chat with Vickie Nauman – former President of 7Digital in North America and now at CrossBorderWorks consulting – about her experience at Music Matters in Singapore, the independent music organisations lashing out against YouTube, the so-almost-closed deal between Apple and Beats (which closed a few hours after our recording), the launch of Next Big Book, Audiam moving beyond YouTube, the new real-time Billboard charts powered by Twitter.

In the show I also interview the CEO of LyricFind Darryl Ballantyne on the company’s recent deal with UMPG and its partnership with BandPage.

Finally we also mention the new app Tunepics and the release of Dejay 2 for iPad and iOS with Spotify integration.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a fantastic week and ’till next time!

This week on Digital Music Trends a real pleasure to have Lucy Blair and Darren Hemmings as guests on the show, which also features interviews with the CEO of Dubset Media Bob Barbiere and the CEO of Yonder Adam Kidron.

Of course we open with a discussion on the Beats Electronics/Music and Apple acquisition story, which has generated a significant amount of press whilst unconfirmed by either company.

We also chat about the successful Kickstarter for a limited release of a rare Aphex Twin record, news on the anti-piracy front as we look at a study from Sweden that shows the impact of the iPRED law, the new HADOPI guidelines and the UK ISPs considering sending some letters to naughty customers.

Finally we chat about Last.fm as it just emerged that Spotify tried to acquire the company before it got hold of The Echo Nest. In between these stories of course the interviews with Yonder and Dubset Media.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a fantastic week and ’till next time!
