DMT 213: 2014 Recap, MixCloud, Beatport, BBC, Shazam, Sony, Bose

This week on Digital Music Trends it was a pleasure to record the last episode of the year with Darren Hemmings (Motive Unknown). On this show we combine a 2014 year-end recap with some of the news from the past week. We share what we thought were the most interesting (& the most disappointing) news stories of the year and I attempt a 4-minute month-by-month summary.

On the news front we cover MixCloud‘s latest stats as I’m joined by the company’s co-founder Nico Perez, we discuss Beatports’ reported entry in the streaming space, the BBC Music On The Beat conference, Shazam’s app overhaul, Sony’s hack and Snapchat, Bose reportedly working on a music streaming offering and much more.

DMT will resume the first week of January, in the meantime have a great holiday break and ’till next time.

DMT 204: Yorke on BitTorrent, SoundCloud, Tidal, Spotify, US Q3 Sales & BBC’s God Only Knows

This week on Digital Music Trends we’re easing back into the swing of things after a short break and this episode features myself and Darren Hemmings (Founder, Motive Unknown) chatting about some of the key stories from the past two weeks: Thom Yorke releasing his new album as a BitTorrent bundle, SoundCloud’s reported issues with major labels and 2013 financials, Spotify becoming a profitable company in the UK in 2013, Tidal’s hardware partnerships, the latest on US music sales as Nielsen Soundscan releases the Q3 figures (it’s not pretty…) and finally a debate around the BBC’s God Only Knows video.

Just the two of us but still (hopefully) plenty to keep you entertained.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a great week and ’till next time!
