This week on Digital Music Trends it was a pleasure to welcome Darren Hemmings (Motive Unknown) and Matthew Hawn (Product & Strategy consultant) to discuss the latest news in the music tech space. The show also includes a catch-up with Turner Kirk and Jeannie Yang from Smule.

On the show we discuss Madonna’s Meerkat premiere and beyond that the potential of apps like Meerkat and Periscope for artists, we address the latest news on the TIDAL front, Omnifone’s partnership with Samsung, Apple’s EU issues, the new Concord Bicycle Group and Seatgeek raising $62m (& what’s happening in the ticketing space?).

I also chat with Smule about the company’s work with artists (both established and up-and-coming), the latest video-based features, the internationalisation of their catalogue and the latest developments in the music gaming space which appears to be heating up right now.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a great week and ’till next time.

DMT 119: Midem 2013, The Full Summary

This Week on Digital Music Trends we take a break from the traditional weekly panel based on the week’s news to showcase some of the interviews I recorded at Midem 2013.

The first part features some of the start-ups I met, so we’ll check out Spins.fm, Pulselocker, JoyTunes and Yasound.

In the second part we move onto more established players and here I’ll feature snippets from conversations I had with Lang Lang, Deezer’s CEO Axel Dauchez, Chris Wiltsee from Bandpage and Jez Bell fom Omnifone.

The third part is DMT’s very own Direct To Fan and Crowdfunding camp — where we hear from Pledge Music CEO Benji Rogers, Kevin Wortis from label services company Girlie Action, Emily White from Whitesmith Entertainment and David Balfour from Finetunes.

Drawing closer to the end we hear a few bits of news announced on the show by companies such as UrTurn, Musixmatch and Musicmetric.

Finally DMT 119 includes a snippet of my chat with Martyn Davies on Midem Hack Day and it ends with the thoughts of journalists, analysts, digital experts on the conference and the relevance of Midem in 2013.

I hope you enjoy the show and please email any feedback to digitalmusictrends@gmail.com
