This week on Digital Music Trends it was a real pleasure to welcome Jay Frank (Digsin) and Ben Sisario (New York Times) to the show.

The first part of the show is devoted to a discussion around Zoe Keating’s blog from last week, which highlighted some important issues on the terms imposed by YouTube on independent artists if they want to continue to monetise their content on the platform.

We also talk about Spotify’s coup in securing a partnership with Sony PlayStation that will see the company scrap its Music Unlimited Service (that never really took off…), the positive and negative aspects of the new Touch Preview feature on iOS, the decline of the Australian music market which registered another 10% drop in 2014, iHeartRadio’s latest numbers and Pandora’s next move, Sly Stone’s royalties lawsuit, transparency in the music industry and much more.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a great week and ’till next time!

DMT 204: Yorke on BitTorrent, SoundCloud, Tidal, Spotify, US Q3 Sales & BBC’s God Only Knows

This week on Digital Music Trends we’re easing back into the swing of things after a short break and this episode features myself and Darren Hemmings (Founder, Motive Unknown) chatting about some of the key stories from the past two weeks: Thom Yorke releasing his new album as a BitTorrent bundle, SoundCloud’s reported issues with major labels and 2013 financials, Spotify becoming a profitable company in the UK in 2013, Tidal’s hardware partnerships, the latest on US music sales as Nielsen Soundscan releases the Q3 figures (it’s not pretty…) and finally a debate around the BBC’s God Only Knows video.

Just the two of us but still (hopefully) plenty to keep you entertained.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a great week and ’till next time!
